ONEUS Gives Houston a Night They Won't Forget

Bayou Music Center was filled with every kind of ONEUS fan you could think of, from those who had seen the group just days prior on a different stop of their La Dolce Vita tour, to those who saw them at one of their previous Houston shows, to those who were seeing them for the very first time. Either way, To Moons, AKA ONEUS fans, were buzzing with excitement, waiting for the five-member K-Pop boy group — consisting of members Hwanwoong, Xion, Seoho, Leedo, and Keonhee — to hit the stage.

The group didn’t keep fans waiting for very long. Unlike the rest of the show that was broken up by a myriad of narrative-filled VCRs, ONEUS went straight into their first song, “Baila Conmigo,” with only a visual of lightning striking that led up to their electric performance.

Maintaining the momentum of the first song, the group’s setlist was filled with high-energy tracks like their follow-up songs “Erase Me” and “Simulation.” It seemed that every track was someone’s favorite, with the audience eagerly dancing and singing along every time. Even the members could feel the crowd’s energy, saying things like, “Houston fans are loud and having fun. Houston is the best!,” and “What do Houston people eat to make their energy levels so high?”

Although, it wasn’t just the songs that made the crowd go wild. Every K-Pop group uses VCRs to keep fans entertained while the members change; but, ONEUS’ VCRs told the story of the La Dolce Vita tour in a unique and interesting way. Fans reacted openly to learning the group’s lore, exclaiming things like, “Someone help him,” “I don’t know how to swim,” and “Fish-boy concept,” during the underwater scenes before it is eventually revealed that the boys are mermen who wished to become human.

The group also had many direct interactions with fans, most notably one where a fan handed a poster of a baby chick with gigantic muscles after asking, “Do you like chicks?,” and the members used it to transition into their song “Lion Heart" after asking fans, “Do you like lions?”

Each member had multiple opportunities to show off their special skills throughout the show. While there were no solo stages, the group stages were full of moments that highlighted the different members. Fans after the show were raving about Hwangwoon’s chair dance during “Simulation,” and his powerful dancing skills were on display during every performance. Main vocalists, Keonhee and Seoho, showed off their impressive vocals in every song, but they were at their most impactful in “A Song Written Easily” and the ballad, “Halley’s Comet.” Leedo’s remarkable stage presence was felt every moment he was on stage, but fans were swooning whenever they heard his deep voice in songs like “Stupid Love” and “Full Moon.” Finally, the youngest member, Xion, shined the most in their direct interactions with the audience, especially during the encore stages “Life is Beautiful” and “Shut Up Crazy Hot.”

Before the “final song” of the night, one member teased fans, saying “I have a sad announcement… I lost my wallet…” before making his actual announcement that the show was ending soon. The members reiterated that they would be back soon if fans cheered enough.

In a lot of ways, the encore was the highlight of the show. Many artists say they love Houston, but Xion showed fans that he meant it by wearing a Buc Ee's onesie under his encore outfit. Similarly, when the members came into the crowd to high five fans and sing centimeters away from their faces, Leedo was given a cowboy hat that he wore proudly both on stage and while amongst fans. Without a doubt, Houston fans were left feeling like ONEUS gave them a unique experience they’ll remember forever.
