As we step into the vibrant month of August, it's time to embark on another musical journey and explore the captivating talents of rising artists. This month's lineup features a diverse range of sounds and genres that are sure to pique your interest. Join us as we introduce 10 artists who are making waves in the music scene: LØREN, hannah bahng, Suyo, Thinlamphone Mahavong, The Sound, King Kofi, Tejas, YOUHA, Blinky Bill, and โต๋ Saksit Vejsupaporn (TOR).

LØREN

Hometown: South Korea

About This Artist: Lee Seung-joo, better known as LØREN, is a multi-talented singer, producer, lyricist, and musician from South Korea. LØREN reminds us of the early 00s rock bands with the pop-punk sound incorporating a heavier rock sound.

Signed to The Black Label, in his early career he went under the name Dj Boid and cawlr in which he co-produced a hit song “개소리 (BULLSHIT)” by G-Dragon. Later, LØREN went on to co-write for international sensation BLACKPINK on their songs “You Never Know,” “Pretty Savage,” and “Lovesick Girls,” where he even made a cameo in the music video piquing fans’ interest.

2020 marks his solo debut with the song and music video for “EMPTY TRASH” introducing his grungy pop-punk style. LØREN presents himself as chill and friendly yet still meticulous with the work he creates; the ability to relate with fans and other musicians based on early childhood to present-day experiences are key elements to his artistry. It’s known that LØREN plays a huge part in all aspects of his music from playing the guitar and drums to writing the lyrics, arranging and composing, and producing it all.

LØREN, previously as a one-man show, was eventually accompanied by bandmates who performed with him at his first music festival at South By Southwest (SXSW). He later made debut performances at Coachella 2023 and Head in the Clouds in New York. If you are a fan of the early 00s rock bands and just love rock in general, definitely check out LØREN’s music.

About This Artist:
hannah bahng is a Korean-Australian singer-songwriter who is stepping into the music scene. hannah started uploading vlogs and content on YouTube in 2021 connecting with fans through multiple social media platforms, creating a following for herself. Her videos showcase her charismatic, sincere, and humorous self to the world. hannah has uploaded beautiful covers of songs like “memories” by Conan Gray and “LA FAMA” by ROSALÍA featuring The Weeknd, sharing her talent and exhibiting her ability to sing in other languages. hannah surprised fans by releasing her debut singles “perfect blues” and “OLeander” on July 14. 

hannah has creative freedom in her work and is passionately involved in every aspect of the process from being the songwriter, producer, director, singer, and more. hannah is an artist under the record label Bahng Entertainment which she founded with her manager. She reflects and expresses through her music and lyrics, giving us soft and beautiful vocals. In the music video for the newest single, “perfect blues,” hannah’s vocals fit perfectly with the serene Bahamas background and strumming of the ukulele. The singer-songwriter’s second single “OLeander” gives us another look at her mellow and mesmerizing distinctive sound.

Suyo

About This Artist: Suyo (수요) is a Korean singer-songwriter with a beautiful voice that will leave you wanting more. Suyo released her first EP in 2022 titled No Mercy. She wrote, composed, and arranged her music, and in her most recent EP mountain, she produced four out of five songs. She has also co-written and featured on songs like “i need you more” by Sweet The Kid and “Make a Move” by SOQI featuring Woshi

In addition to releasing her own music, Suyo has uploaded a few covers of songs like “Moment” by Victoria Monét, “Attention” by NewJeans, and “Love” by Keshia Cole which showcased her soft and soothing vocals. In 2022, she uploaded a beautiful short cover of Keshia Cole’s “Love” to her YouTube page. In this cover's music video, she is seen playing a ukulele alongside the calm vibes of Gwangalli Beach while singing with her smooth and angelic vocals.

Thinlamphone Mahavong

About This Artist:
Thinlamphone Mahavong is a Laotian singer based in Nanning, China as she currently attends school at Guangxi Arts University. Thinlamphone can speak Lao and a bit of Chinese as seen in her cover of Jane Zhang’s “Tian xia wu shuang (天下無雙).” Thinlamphone is part of a newer generation of Laotian artists that still displays and incorporates Laotian genres and culture in her music by using traditional instruments like a Khene (the national instrument of Laos) and more. In her music video for “ຮັກແທ້ກໍເຂົ້າມາ (ฮักแท้ก็เข้ามา)” feat. ANON, she is seen wearing beautifully woven Lao traditional outfits (sinh - skirt) and accessories as she dances in different styles of the traditional Lao dance, Bamboo dance, and more. 


From her songs like “ຮັກແທ້ກໍເຂົ້າມາ (ฮักแท้ก็เข้ามา)” which reached 2.2 million views, to songs she's featured on like "
All day all night" by Zamio P that reached 10 million views, she has reached many views on her YouTube page. Thinlamphone not only creates music but has gained a following on social media as she posts content on her TikTok and vlogs and covers on her YouTube channel; these videos show glimpses of her humorous and lighthearted personality.


In 2022, Thinlamphone attended and won
awards representing Laos at the ASEAN Music Festival in Vietnam where artists from across Southeast Asian regions gather to showcase their talent and share their music with music enthusiasts. This past March, Thinlamphone performed at Saibaidee Fest, which is a Southeast Asian music and cultural festival that is the first and largest Lao, Thai, and Hmong festival ever in the United States. The Sound

About This Artist:
The Sound (더 사운드) is a four-member punk-rock band based in Seoul, South Korea consisting of Julian Earl (vocals, guitar), Jaehyung (Jason) Hong (vocals, lead guitar), Yeon (Christian) Choi (bass, vocals), and Yohan Joo (drums). The Sound, who debuted in 2018 with the album Static Colors, is another band that reminds us of the 90s and early 00s rock sound with their talented guitar riffs/solos along with the addictive melody and more. Formed in 2017, all members attended and graduated from Hanlim Multi Art School in Seoul.

Using their social media platform, they’ve created TikTok videos spreading awareness about the Korean indie-rock scene and supported the local businesses that create spaces in South Korea's rock scene. Some of The Sound's achievements include a Japan tour, numerous indie-rock shows in South Korea, three songs in the OST of the 2023 film Soulmate, starring Kim Da-mi and Jeon So-nee, and their first full-length album, Who’s Listening?, that was released in June. Exciting news was announced that The Sound is set to perform at the 2023 Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival alongside big named rock artists like The Strokes, wave to earth, LØREN, SE SO NEON, and more. 

The Sound collectively brings high energy that makes listeners want to have a good time; and if you're at their shows, you'll certainly be jumping around and banging your heads to their music. The Sound is going to take the rock music scene by storm with their nostalgic punk rock sound and musical talent, and we are so excited for what's to come.

Born into a musical family, TOR's father, Nakorn Vejsupaporn, was a prominent figure in the renowned 80s Thai pop band Grand Ex, which laid the foundation for the artist’s journey into the Thai music industry. At the tender age of three, he began playing the piano, and his exceptional skills at the keys soon caught the attention of world-renowned pianist Richard Clayderman. Impressed by his talents, Clayderman extended an invitation to join him on stage during a concert in Bangkok, a moment that set the stage for TOR's stellar musical career.
