JUNE Returns to the El Rey Theatre for ‘JUNEtober’ in LA
The El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, Calif. came alive on October 10 with a groovy and electrifying performance from JUNE (이준상), a Korean R&B singer-songwriter, composer, and producer.
JUNE began his journey as a trainee under Big Hit Entertainment, contributing to the songwriting and composing for BTS and Suran, Eventually, he moved to Planetarium Records and became a part of PLT. Now, he has taken the leap into independence.
In 2019, JUNE embarked on a tour with PLT in the United States, including at the iconic El Rey Theatre. Fast forward to October 10 when he made a return to the very same venue, this time as a soloist. In his opening remarks to the audience, he warmly exclaimed, “Long time no see!" The venue was filled with anticipation as fans gathered for a night of JUNE’s groovy and smooth R&B music during his mini-US tour JUNEtober.
The evening began with fans having the opportunity to meet and greet with JUNE before the show. He sat at a table in the center of the venue, signing photocards and engaging in conversations with each fan. Afterwards, each fan had the opportunity to take selfies with JUNE, with some striking various poses such as forming hand hearts with him and flashing peace signs. The personal touch of this interaction set a warm and intimate tone for the night, creating an immediate connection between the artist and his audience.
As more fans started to fill the venue, the atmosphere was intimate and relaxed, setting the stage for a memorable night. Before JUNE took the stage, the K-Pop cover dance team Team B.U.K delivered an electrifying performance as they danced to hits like TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s “New Rules,” NCT DOJAEJUNG's "Perfume," and ENHYPEN's “Go Big or Go Home.”
The highlight of the evening was when the dance team joined JUNE on stage as his backup dancers for his first song, creating an unforgettable collaboration. Team B.U.K started off the choreography on stage and JUNE appeared from behind the center of the curtains.
When JUNE finally emerged from behind his backup dancers, the audience erupted in excitement. He opened with "Now," setting the tone for the evening with the groovy vibes of his songs. He went on to perform more songs from his second album Ending such as “Anywhere,” and “A day of weather.” Slowing it down, JUNE sat down on a stool and sang “The Moment” and “Autumn Leaves,” which had the crowd swaying side to side with their hands in the air.
As the night unfolded, JUNE delivered an intimate and heartfelt performance of “For,” his English song, which beautifully conveys the theme of reciprocating the love he's received from his supporters.
The atmosphere then took a lively turn, shifting to an upbeat tempo after he performed his debut song "Sérénade." JUNE shared with the audience that the music video for this track was filmed in Los Angeles, making the performance all the more special as he sang it in the very city where it was filmed, with the crowd joyfully singing along.
Before performing "Got U," JUNE practiced the chorus with the crowd for them to sing along. During the performance, the fans seamlessly and powerfully sang out the words “I got you” right on cue. The energy kept going with "Tonight," an upbeat track that maintained the electrifying momentum, as the audience continued to dance and sing along. JUNE jumped and playfully danced along to these songs with the crowd.
As the concert neared its conclusion with the song “Day N Night,” JUNE's latest release, he graciously exited the stage after the final performance. At that moment, the audience might have believed the night had reached its end. However, to their delight, JUNE made a return for an exhilarating encore.
Peering his head through the slit of the curtain, the thunderous chants of "encore, encore, encore" from the fans filled the air; and in response, June simply said, "Okay, let's go." The crowd's energy was infectious as they jumped with arms in the air and danced in the crowd, making it a truly unforgettable moment.
The encore included the upbeat song "Beautiful," which left the audience with a lasting impression. JUNE grabbed his water bottle and playfully drenched the crowd, igniting a chorus of ecstatic screams from the soaked fans. The night wrapped up with a group photo, hi-touch, and fans having polaroid photos taken with JUNE.
