Huh Displays His Unique and Versatile Vocals in Latest EP ‘Voice tool tip.txt’

Since his debut in 2019, South Korean rapper Huh has steadily built a career within the K-Rap and K-hip-hop scene. With his versatile vocals, unique, husky tone, and strong flow, Huh has mastered various hip-hop styles, capturing the attention of both his music peers and the K-hip-hop community alike.

In 2022, he was runner-up on season 11 of Korea’s notable hip-hop competition show, Show Me The Money (SMTM), where he participated in several chart-topping tracks that his team (JUSTTHIS x R.Tee) produced and released, including “MY WAY,” “Burn Up,” and “Ugly Duckling.” His participation in SMTM11 came one year after he joined Amoeba Culture’s growing roster of musicians, joining the likes of Dynamicduo (rappers and founders of the label), SOLE, and Thama, amongst others.

Fast forward another year, and Huh now displays his musical versatility with a brand new EP album titled Voice tool tip.txt. Released on September 14, this EP consists of six tracks that aim to show how Huh uses his voice through varying styles of hip-hop, including three impressive collaborations with well-known figures in the K-Rap and K-Hip-Hop world.

Opening track "2ttam," an abbreviation for 'Two Turntable & A Microphone,' features SMTM3 winner and iKON member, BOBBY on its compelling beat. Running on a catchy, rhythmic flow, “2ttam”’s chorus imprints itself on the listener’s mind, replaying the words and the flow of “two turntable & a microphone,” becoming an instant singalong (or rapalong), from the first listen. “Live in Jamsil,” on the other hand, takes the EP down a trap route, with a trap-heavy beat and a heavier rap flow to what was heard in “2ttam.” The second of three collaborations, this song features the distinctive vocals of South Korean rapper Street Baby.

Following “Live in Jamsil,” the third track “freak asian,” featuring Korean-American rapper LOOPY, dives into a hip-hop concept coated with tropical sounds; steel pans drive the instrumental mixed with the song’s hip-hop beat, offering a cool, relaxing backdrop that’s perfect for a summer vacation.

Moving away from the EP’s rap sound, the fourth track “fuck’em up!” joins the music industry’s ongoing trend of Y2K, Jersey Club-inspired sounds. A fast-paced and lightweight, drum and bass beat, paired with dreamy vocals present Huh and his voice in a new light.

Tracks five and six of Voice tool tip.txt bring the EP to a close, delivering the title track “hit the floor” in two different forms: a normal version (the official title track) and a sped up version that concludes the EP. “hit the floor” takes Voice tool tip.txt in a different direction from the other tracks, presenting another fresh style that Huh is capable of taking on.

This track offers a concocted instrumentation of various sounds such as piano, squeaking, bass, and electronic beats that perfectly lay the foundation of an energetic and upbeat hip-hop track. Huh approaches “hit the floor” with a softer rap vocal, again showcasing his ability to use his voice in different ways to convey different messages and feelings.

Matching the fun appeal of the song, the music video for “hit the floor” encapsulates a giant dance party environment starring Huh alongside popular middle school dancer Kim Woo Joo (who has appeared on You Quiz On The Block, a famous television show in South Korea), NSW Young Jun, and a Jersey Club dance team, all of whom display high-level freestyle dance skills. It is a fun video for a fun song that becomes even more entertaining through the sped up version that brings the EP to a close, with both “hit the floor” and “hit the floor (sped up)” having the listener’s head bopping and body grooving along to the beat, from start to finish.

Through his six tracks of varying hip-hop styles, Huh has proven his craft of being an excellent artist within Korea’s hip-hop industry. With Huh’s distinctive vocals and charming musical presence, Voice tool tip.txt is a must-listen for hip-hop fans who want to listen to and appreciate new music. Whether you are a devoted K-hip-hop listener or someone who wants to check out the K-hip-hop scene, make the songs of Voice tool tip.txt your next listen.
