On Friday, March 18th, South Korean artist GEMINI took the stage at (Le) Poisson Rouge in New York City. This is the second tour stop on the Still Blue Tour, the artist’s first in North America. R&B and Hip-Hop fans in the Korean music space may be familiar with GEMINI from his previous feature on the track “Champagne Diet” from the H1ghr Music compilation album H1ghr: Blue Tapewhere he worked alongside Jay Park, pH-1, GroovyRoom, and 28AV. GEMINI made his solo debut in 2020 with the single album “Going” and since then has amassed a following of listeners that continues to grow.

The show started with Jinsol, a South Korean fashion designer by day and an artist by night. The artist’s upbeat and interactive set heightened the energy in the room, and it was the perfect build-up for the rest of the night as the crowd’s anticipation grew. To keep things hyped, DJ Fallens took control of the room with a 30-minute set full of unexpected but memorable remixes of popular K-Pop tracks such as NewJean’s “Ditto” and “OMG,” as well as Pop and Hip-Hop tracks that got everyone singing and dancing.

The lights on the stage soon dimmed, and suddenly “Love Is Banned” blared through the speakers. Fans screamed in unison and began to move closer to the stage, phones up high, waiting to capture his entrance. GEMINI emerged from the side of the stage, receiving a warm welcome from the audience, who quickly began singing and chanting along. GEMINI made it a point to talk briefly with the crowd early on to show his appreciation and evident excitement. A memorable moment was when GEMINI gave a shout-out to New York, to which a fan screamed, “STAY HERE FOREVER,” putting a shy smile on the artist’s face.

While GEMINI sang tracks off the Still Blue EP, he also performed other tracks from his growing discography, such as “mon amour,” “Inside Out,” and “She lives in Paris.” GEMINI began initiating fun moments such as throwing water on the crowd and taking photos on fans’ phones. GEMINI was soaking up all the love in the room and returning it tenfold towards his fans. Another memorable moment was how explosive the crowd became when GEMINI began his performance of “Trip,” his 2021 collaboration with Korean artist Jay Park. It was a fun “trip” down memory lane, returning to the artist’s earlier work.

The last few songs on the setlist were some of his slower tracks, such as “More & More” and “a place we used to go.” Fans waved their cell phone lights as GEMINI grabbed a mic stand, looking back at the lit-up room. It was a beautiful end to an incredible concert. Fans lingered, hoping the show would continue, and soon began chanting GEMINI’s name. GEMINI quickly returned to the stage for an encore performance with “Broken Love,” the artist’s first single. Ending the show with the song that started it all was a warm reminder of how far GEMINI has come in such a short period of time. Before leaving the stage, GEMINI and DJ Fallens took a group photo with the crowd. A memory that everyone, especially GEMINI, will be able to look back on fondly.
